Scanner is murder on most colored drawings, its very hard to remember the tints of the colors and match them on the screen (assuming the screen in calibrated correctly).

Get GIMP, its cheap (ie, free) and is almost like PS. Also, a word of advise, Fancy programs and art supplies do not make you a better artist, only persistence and hard work can make you a better artist.
